Flying Man Brewing Austin Texas

Located at 2400 Patterson Industrial Dr. Austin, TX

Flying Man Brewing Company is open in the space previously occupied by Rogness Brewing Co. on the border of Pflugerville and Austin.  Rogness Brewing Co. announced this summer that they would be closing temporarily in order to build and open a new location in Pflugerville sometime in 2017.

Craft Beer Austin caught up with Flying Man Brewing founders Matt Barker and Adam Caudill to talk about the new brewery and get the latest developments.

The name Flying Man stems from the duos love of hang gliding, paragliding and all things that keep you off of the ground, “blending our love for craft beer and aviation” Adam points out.  They were originally planning to open and artisan pizza brewpub; but, when the opportunity arose to buy the Rogness building, it was just too perfect to pass up. “This gives us the ability to grow into a 30 barrel system so we do not have to worry about being over capacity shortly after opening”, says Adam.

The 6,000 square foot building is going to be completely remodeled and will include a taproom and outdoor area that will be both kid and dog friendly. “We both have young families and its important to us to be able to have a family friendly environment for our customers and ourselves”, says Adam. Poised for growth, the brewery includes a 30 BBL brewhouse and four 30 BBL fermenters.  That’s just to start, new equipment is already on it’s way. Once the beers are flowing, you can look for a variety of styles from a Blonde, to a DIPA to a spicy Chipotle Stout.

The brewery received it’s TTB last week and the TABC process is underway.  However, the city is most likely going to be the hold up for an opening date due to various permitting requirements. Once they receive their Temporary Certificate of Occupancy, they plan to start brewing for wholesale distribution while the construction is finalized on the tap room. Look for distribution flowing by the end of the year and open the taproom in early 2017 (pending permits of course).
