Batch Celebrates 2 Years this Saturday, August 24th 10am to 11pm
Located at 220 Manor Road, Austin, TX, 78723
Family-owned Batch Craft Beer & Kolaches, a popular destination for craft beer lovers and foodies alike, is opening a brewery next door to their original location. The two properties are not directly connected; however, the new brewhouse and barrel room are located adjacent to the popular beer garden.
Brothers Noah and Josh Lit never intended to expand their business with the addition of a brewery, but when they met John Snyder, formerly of Jester King, things just started to fall into place. “We never really wanted to open a brewery, but tasting the beers John was brewing inspired us to take the plunge,” Lit explains. Snyder signed on as head brewer and Heath Shuford rounds out the brewing team, focusing on their IPA program. “At Batch we have access to some of the best beers in the world and we still really can’t wait to see what John and Heath are going to brew up for us!”
One of the unique features of the brewery is the 3.5BBL electric SS brewhouse resides in one room with a handful of 7BBL fermenters and the BugRoom, the nickname for the barrel room, is in an adjacent room with six open-top puncheons, four copper tanks for primary fermentation, and barrels. This set up allows Snyder to produce a wide variety of barrel-aged sours, mix cultured table beers and whatever else he can cook up, while Shuford can focus on creating clean IPAs and Pale Ales.
Adding to the variety of styles, the team plans to collaborate with local breweries, restaurants and artists. “We have a lot of friends in the industry that may not always get to do a lot of creative brewing,” muses Snyder, “and the size of our brewhouse allows us to do that.” In terms of artists, the team is planning to partner with a variety of local artists on can art for their special releases.
Except for the special releases, all of the beers will be available at the original Batch location where the restaurant will serve as the taproom. While the tap wall will consist mainly of Batch brewed beers and the many collaboration beers, they will continue to offer the outstanding bottle and can selection via the large coolers that they do today.
