A Story about 512 Brewing Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter
April 2012 was the first time Rich and I came to visit an old high school friend in Austin. Our first night out in Austin we asked him to drop us off downtown. We decided to go craft beer bar hopping (until he could join us later). Our first stop was the Ginger Man on Lavaca St. Of course I wanted to have something local and the 512 Brewing Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter was on tap. It was so delicious that I even recommended it to a couple next to me. Next stop we went to The Brew Exchange but I kept thinking about the Whiskey Double Pecan Porter. Rich suggested we go back to Ginger Man and get more. I was delighted to say the least. After having another, we went for a walk on 6th St and met our friend at Easy Tiger for more beer. I was telling him that he should try the 512 Brewing Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter and he was like “Let’s go”. I was having my 3rd glass for the night and was in heaven. It was so rich and delicious. In August, we moved to Austin and only found it on tap once at the Bender Bar. Recently, I was able to get two 750 ml bottles at Twin Liquors in Bee Caves (score). My husband came home with three more bottles. I guess he remembers my love for the Whiskey Double Pecan Porter. Most recently during SXSW, The Chicago House had a cask on tap.
You could say that first great night in Austin with the 512 Brewing Whiskey Barrel Aged Double Pecan Porter was at least partially responsible for us moving here!
